Fuck ’indie’ In fact, fuck bootstrapped, venture backed, founders, solopreneurs, startups, YC, … and all communities or factions around software. All of them are exploding in numbers, and therefore any status or value they brought is diminishing. Especially if it can be self-assigned, e.g indie. Ultimately, it’s all about software that brings value and is built with care (quality). Your best attempt at your desired dent in the universe. Put your heart into it, and dare have your identity associated with it vs. a label. You’ll naturally find likeminded people. That should be your nisched community, but it will be organic and have no name. Anything >100 people is not a community. It’s a program designed by someone’s incentives, and with diminishing returns to you.

What is going on with indie hacking? People have pivoted to quick cash grabs and milking their audience. Is anyone building a durable software business anymore?

Our ambition is to build the best (and most used) billing platform in the world. So our focus is: - 10x better AX/DX for billing than status quo [*] - MoR is an opt-in feature vs our entire business - BYOPSP - Moving up market; VC backed applied AI startups as current ICP We’re not settling for ”Just another MoR”, and we’ll look quite different 3, 6 to 12 months from now. Never been more excited. [*] More on this soon and what we’re cooking right now to rethink billing 👇

Today, we started prototyping a new approach to billing. The concept is either a fools errand or a game changer; I’m willing to bet my career on the latter. Fun challenges and times ahead.

Committing to NixOS now and the year of Linux. I setup ~90% over the winter holidays, but never got around to finishing it once back at work. Omarchy inspired me to complete the last 10%.

Anyone running Omarchy w/ Nix home-manager? Or should I abandon that entirely for Stow or similar?

Pause a subscription on @polar_sh instead of canceling it. Billing stops at the end of the current period. The payment method stays on file, so resuming charges the customer right away with no second checkout. Built for seasonal plans and account freezes.

dear designers, i need your help. i’ve spent 3 years as @polar_sh’s only designer. product, brand, ui/ux, marketing & shaping the vision for billing in the intelligence era. billing is the least designed surface in software but one of the most touched. it is also harder to design than it looks. the design at @polar_sh is further along than it should be for one person, but further behind than it should be for a company our size. it held. but it won’t much longer. after the summer, i will start a process to hire a product designer. this is a rare opportunity to shape the design function for a company paving the way in a very exciting problem space. dm me if that sounds like the job you want. consider this the early notice. the person i’m looking for probably isn’t looking. if you know them, tell them. if you are them, dm me.
